Forwarding E-Mail
pixel.gif (42 bytes)

The FORWARD option is another shortcut you will find helpful. If you select this option, you can forward the entire e-mail message to another recipient.

The FORWARD option is often used to pass along announcements, other messages of general interest. You will recognize it by the long list of e-mail header tags that often appear at the top of the message. By the way, you can select and delete these headers from your forwarded message as a favor to the new recipient by using the Edit options… your friends will thank you!

Outlook Express

  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. Select the last e-mail message you received from your online guide and open it.
  3. Click on the Forward button in the toolbar.
  4. Enter your online guide’s e-mail address in the TO: field. Enter your e-mail address in the CC: field and press the return key.
  5. Notice that the original message appears below a dotted line on the screen and that the insertion point is blinking in the line above the original message.
  6. Type a short comment in this location.
  7. You can edit the original message by selecting and deleting text in the original message.
  8. Send the message.
  9. You will notice that a little green arrow now appears next to the message title in the Inbox to indicate that you have forwarded the message.
  10. The next time you check your Inbox, you will see the forwarded message.
  11. Record the date when you completed this activity in your logbook.

Web Mail

  • Open Web Mail.
  • Select the last e-mail message you received from your online guide and open it.
  • Click on the Forward button in the gray toolbar.
  • Enter your online guide’s e-mail address in the TO: field. Enter your e-mail address in the CC: field and press the return key.
  • Notice that the original message appears in a box at the bottom of the screen.
  • You will also notice a message box with the words --the forwarded message follows--.
  • Type a short comment below this line.
  • Send the message.
  • Check your INBOX to see the forwarded message.
  • Record the date when you completed this activity in your logbook.

Outlook Express also allows you to REDIRECT a message. This is similar to forwarding a message except that the original sender’s e-mail address is left intact and resent-from is added to the FROM: field. If the new recipient selects the REPLY option, the return e-mail will go to the original sender, not to the person who redirected the message.

It is easy to see how the REPLY, REPLY TO ALL, FORWARD and REDIRECT options can be a real time-savers, especially if you receive and send lots of e-mail!
