Creating a Banner Graphic for Your Webpage

Banner graphics often appear at the top of webpages. Web designers use banner graphics to give all the pages in a website a common look. Banner graphics are also used for the advertisements that appear on webpages. In most cases, the banner graphic is long and narrow.

You can create banner graphics with AppleWorks Paint or other digital art tools like Adobe PhotoShop. If you do not have access to a graphics application on your computer, you can use online graphics tools to create banner graphics.

Here are several online graphics websites that will allow you to create your own banner graphics. Follow the online directions or consult the Help files for the tool you select.

GIFWorks.com - GIFWorks is a full-featured online graphics editing tool. You can open images from your computer, apply special effects and save the modified image back to your computer.

3D Text Maker - Create personalized 3-D Banners for your webpages.

Animated Banner Maker - Create personalized animated banners for your webpages.

Whether you use a graphics tool on your own computer or an online graphics tool, you will want to create a banner graphic that is about 600 wide and 75 pixels high.

When you are finished tweaking your banner graphic, you will need to save it to the same folder where you earlier saved your default.html webpage. Follow these steps.

  1. Click on the File menu.
  2. Select Save As.
  3. Change the file name to logo.jpg
  4. Select JPEG from the File Format options.
  5. Click on Save.

The final step in this activity is to add your new banner graphic to the default.html webpage you began in the previous activity. Follow these steps.

  1. Open the folder where you saved your webpage.
  2. Open the default.html webpage.
  3. After Navigator has opened on the screen, select Edit Page from the File menu.
  4. Composer will open on the screen.
  5. Position your cursor at the top of the page.
  6. Click on the Image toolbar button.
  7. Click on Choose File.
  8. Navigate to the folder where you saved the banner graphic and select the logo.jpg file.
  9. When you click on OK, you web banner will appear on the screen.
  10. Click on the Save icon to save the changes.
  11. Click on Preview to view your modified webpage.
