This activity will guide you through the process of converting your Favorites List (Internet Explorer) / Bookmarks (Netscape) to a webpage that can be used to manage classroom web explorations.

The first step is to use the search engines, web indexes and web directories to locate appropriate educational resources on the web. As you find appropriate websites, add them to your Favorites List or Bookmarks. When your collection of Favorites/Bookmarks is complete, follow these steps to transform them into a webpage that can be added to your Classroom Webpages.

Internet Explorer:

  1. Click on the Favorites menu and select Organize Favorites
  2. From the File menu, select Export Favorites.
  3. Navigate to the folder where your default.html webpage is saved.
  4. Notice that Internet Explorer has already added the .html suffix that designates the file as a webpage. You can keep the default Favorites file name or change the name to match the focus of your Favorites list (8 letters or less, no spaces!) . Be sure to keep the .html suffix.
  5. Click on Save and your Favorites list will be exported as a webpage.

Netscape Navigator:

  1. Open the Netscape Bookmarks Screen by selecting Edit Bookmarks from the Bookmarks menu.
  2. Select Save As from the File menu
  3. Enter a file name (8 letters or less, no spaces!) that reflects the contents of your bookmarks list and add the .html suffix that will save the bookmarks list as a webpage.
  4. Save the Bookmarks list to same folder where your default.html webpage is saved.

Editing Your Exported Favorites / Bookmarks List with Netscape Composer

  6. You can change the default title of the webpage by selecting Page Title from the Format menu.
  7. Save the webpage and click on the Preview button to double-check the links.
  8. Close the webpage when you are finished.

Building a link from your default.html webpage to the favorites.html / bookmarks.html webpage
