This tutorial
will guide you through the process of uploading your Class Webpage(s)
to your personal webspace on the Kings Canyon Unified School District
webserver.
It is assumed
that:
- You
have created a webpage named default.html which will serve
as your Class Homepage.
- Additional
webpages and graphics files that are linked to the default.html webpage
are all saved in a single folder on your hard drive or in a
single folder on a floppy disk or zip disk.
File
naming protocols have been followed:
- Eight
letters or less
- No spaces
in file names
- No special
characters
- webpages
are all named with the .html suffix
- graphics
are all named with a .gif or .jpg suffix
If this
is not the case, please modify your webpages and graphics before attempting
to upload them to the webserver. They will not work if the guidelines
above have not been followed.
Uploading
Your Class Webpage(s)
- Open
your web browser and navigate to:
http://www.kc-usd.k12.ca.us
- Click
on the Web Mail link on the left side of the screen.
- Enter
your Login Name and Password
- Press
the Enter button
- Click
on the Web Site link.
- Click
on the Browse button.
- Navigate
to the folder where you have saved your webpage(s) and graphics.
- Click
once on the default.html file.
- Click
on Open.
- Click
on the Upload File button.
- Double-check
the File Name after the file is uploaded, making sure that the .html
and .gif or .jpg file suffixes are present. If they
are not, you will need to delete the file and return to the folder
on your computer to adjust the file names. It is not possible to rename
the files once they have been uploaded.
- Repeat
the steps above for every webpage and every graphic that will
be included in your website.
- When
you are finished, click on the Log Out link.
Viewing
Your Class Webpage(s) Online
- Open
your web browser and enter the following web address:
http://mail.kingscanyonusd.k12.ca.us:8100/~loginname
- Replace
the loginname with your the actual Login Name that you use to gain
access to the Kings Canyon Web Mail service. Hint: the ~ character
that preceeds your loginname is found in the upper left corner of
the keyboard. You will need to hold down the shift key when typing
the character.
- You
webpage(s) should appear on the screen.
- Add
your webpage address to Favorites or Bookmarks to save
the trouble of typing in that long address every time.
- Check
all of your webpages to insure that the links work and that graphics
are displaying correctly.
If you
find that a webpage or graphic is generating a webserver error message
or is not displaying correctly, you will need to delete the webpage
or graphic from the webserver (Follow the procedures above), return
to the folder where you saved your webpages and graphics, correct the
problem and then upload the corrected webpages or graphics. Look first
for missing .html or .gif or .jpg suffixes and
file names with spaces or special characters.
