Create a folder for your webpages and graphics:

It is important that all your webpages and linked graphics are saved in the same folder on your hard drive or on a floppy disk or zip disk. Create that folder before you begin the tutorials that follow.

  • Navigate to the location where you want to create the folder
  • Click on the File menu and select New Folder
  • Replace untitled folder with webpages and press the return key
  • Note the location of the folder for future reference

Several key file naming protocols are required by the Kings Canyon Unified School District webserver. Following these protocols will insure that your webpages and associated images are displayed properly when you upload them to the server. Ignoring these protocols will result in error messages and missing images.

Webpage Naming Protocols:

  • The homepage of your KCUSD website must be named default.html

Other webpages linked to your homepage must:

  • End in the .html suffix that identifies the file as a webpage
  • Use eight letters or less
  • Not contain any spaces
  • Not contain any special characters (generally any shifted keys in the top row of the keyboard with the exception of a hyphen or underscore)
  • Be uploaded to the webserver along with your default.html webpage

Graphics linked to your webpages must:

  • Be saved in the same folder where your webpages are being saved
  • End in a .gif or .jpg that identifies the file as a web graphic (the default Mac .pict graphics format will not work on the web...)
  • Use eight letters or less
  • Not contain any spaces
  • Not contain any special characters (generally any shifted keys in the top row of the keyboard with the exception of a hyphen or underscore)
  • Be uploaded to the webserver along with your webpages
