Subscribing to Educational Listserves / Groups

Communicating and collaborating with other educators can be a very beneficial professional development experience. Select one or more of the options below to experience a listserve or collaborative group.

If you are worried about getting inundated with messages from a listserve, I would suggest the GLEF Weekly E-Newsletter. This subscription will only result in one message a week. I have been a subscriber for several years now and have found the weekly newsletter to be very beneficial.

The Opening Bell Newsletter arrives in my inbox every weekday morning. It typically is one to two pages in length and always has something of interest.

The Teachers.net mailrings can be quite active. If you want to try them, I'd suggest that you start with one and unsubscribe if the subscription results in more than you want to read.

If you would prefer not to get any more e-mail, you can bookmark and follow one or more of the Edutopia Groups while you work on the rest of the course.

GLEF's Weekly E-Newsletter

Note: The George Lucas Educational Foundation offers an excellent weekly E-Newsletters that provide a steady stream of useful information focused on the integration of technology into the classroom.

The Opening Bell

If you are NEA member, you can subscribe to The Opening Bell. "The Opening Bell is a daily news briefing tailored to the needs of professionals in public education, summarizing key media coverage of education-related news from the preceding 24 hours."

Teachers.Net Mail Rings

Note: Teachers.net offers dozens of special interest listserves (they call them MailRings...) which can provide opportunities for communication with other educators who share similar teaching assignments.

Edutopia Groups

The George Lucas Educational Foundation's Edutopia site also hosts a growing number of discussion groups where educators can "network, collaborate, support and innovate our way into this new world, together."

If you decide to complete this optional activity, record the date on which you completed the activity in your logbook.
